OTPF

The OTPF identifies the overarching goals of an occupational therapist. It gives us the guidelines by which we practice. The OTPF also explains how the client is the center of the practice and how they should be able to engage in important and desirable occupations. The OTPF is the "framework" by which the occupational therapist should model their practice. It shows the "what" and the "how" of OT.

Knowledge Check

A specific role that I have is being a husband. This role has many occupations, activities, and tasks. One of the most recent occupations I have enjoyed doing is the dishes. While Kaylee and I split the majority of the chores at home, I have enjoyed contributing to doing the dishes. One of the activities involved with this is putting soap on the applicator to scrub the dishes. This is a very simple activity, but it is vital to making sure the dishes are cleaned. Lastly, a task in doing the dishes is pushing down on the soap dispenser.  This is very important in ensuring the soap gets onto the applicator. Cleaning the dishes is one occupation that I have learned to enjoy over the past couple of months.

Knowledge Check

One occupation that has stayed true over time is meal preparation. Preparing food is something that many people do every single day. Whether your meal preparation comes in the form of a Lean Cuisine or making dishes from scratch, like most families did before TV dinners, the occupation has stayed consistent. I think the only true change to this occupation has been accessibility. Today, we have companies BlueApron, Home Chef, and Freshly that will deliver ingredients or fully packaged meals to your door. While these services make our lives much easier, it makes a trip to the Farmer's Market much more fulfilling and "organic" knowing your food has been naturally grown. While we live in a busy society, meal preparation is one occupation that will always play a vital role in our lives.
